Antelope Peak Challenge

Tonight, I started looking at alternative routes for the Antelope Peak Challenge that would decrease the amount of road on the route. From Biosphere II, it looks like we can take some 4wd trails to the south side of Oracle. While looking at aerial views, the idea of jumping onto the control road and the AZ Trail to Tiger Mine Road began to unfold. It would add less road and a lot more mileage (approx 90ish miles).

Here is a topo view of the 4wd trail near Biosphere II (purple line is current route on highway).

Any thoughts about adding more miles? Or how about a 60-mile and 100-mile option?

So there's a dirt route from Biosphere to Oracle? Who knew? All the time I spent out there and trips on the bike in to go to the Depot, and it coulda been dirt? I'm really hoping to be there for Antelope Peak. Not sure I'll be fit enough for more than the norm, but I'd say go for it anyway.

What's up with you being the only one to 2-lap the KCE? Was there weather?

The KCE this year had some pretty strong wind gusts up to 30 mph. Truth is I was thinking I was doing only one lap and then going to start BBQing and drinking beer with everyone; the wind was not going to make that possible, so I opted to go out for another lap (only after downing a Fat Tire).

I hope that you come down for APC, I need to talk to Scotty about mileage and his ideas, but I think we need to add some more mileage to the route (perhaps even have two options)

When is this ride/race? Might be coming late Feb. Couldn't do 100 to save my life, but 60 is a maybe.

It is in Jan. If you are planning late Feb, I will have four days of starting 2/26.

Chad, I used to live in Oracle and commute to work at B2 thru the desert on the jeep roads you are interested in. There are ~2 parallel routes available (northern is closer to the highway). Both are fun riding in my opinion. I want to try some/all of your antelope route (maybe this weekend).

Want to ride the entire route in a week or so? I'd like to ride it but I have plans this weekend. Email me at chad f brown (no spaces) at yahoo dot com.
